Gaynor Wheatley

Hey!

These are my final four pieces.

These pieces depict the transition of lace from past to present, showing the history, industry and heritage. My pieces are a juxtaposition of industry and elegance which are certainly eye catching!

These will be released into the public domain in March, keep your eyes peeled!

Hope you like them! :)

Howdy!

My work for Postcards for the People has led me on to create these little beauties!

Once I had spoken with my comissioner, she suggested that my panels needed more adding to them.  After hours of panel making, constant mindmapping and researching artists such as Fiona Heron, Bethany Walker and Louise West, I decided to add a metallic aesthetic to my panels to really show the juxtaposition of industry and elegance within my work!

The majority of these are samples, but I already have selected a few of which I'm going to use for my final 4 pieces :) I intend to make some more though, which will leave me with plenty of samples and more pieces to choose from for my final four!

More to come, thanks for reading! :)

A short introduction...

Hello, I'm Gaynor!

With the Postcards for the People project I have decided to follow the route of textiles and lace, focusing on the lace market history, industry and heritage.

One of my main inspirations has been the lace pattern of the architecture of the Contemporary Art Gallery in Nottingham.

My work will be a juxtaposition of elegance and industrial by manipulating clay to create embossed panels of mixed materials.

So far I have experimented with plaster, clay and liquid latex.

Currently I am thinking of ways to challenge myself with this concept. I next plan to make samples using wax and chocolate, watch this space!
